Sheikh Hasina Forced to Resign; Flew Away, Interim Govt to Form

Sheikh Hasina, Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh resigned from her post on Monday amid the continuous pressure to stop the protests. She had stepped down from office ending 15 years of her Bangladesh rule. The news sparked celebrations all over the country marking as a victory of the youth.

The chief of army staff General Waker-uz-Zaman made the decision public that an Interim Government will be formed soon. It won’t take long and he requested citizens to trust the process. “I request you all to be a little patient, give us some time, and together we will be able to solve all the problems,” Zaman mentioned. “Please don’t go back to the path of violence, and please return to nonviolent and peaceful ways.”

Sheikh Hasina Stepping Down and Escaping to India

Sheikh Hasina has stepped down after weeks of unstoppable protests against the newly launched quota system. The youth of the whole of Bangladesh came together to protest against the government. More than 280 students were killed along with thousands of them injured as the government fought back against the people who took the step of violence against the Government.

Reportedly, Sheikh Hasina flew away from Bangladesh on Monday with the help of a Military Helicopter. It is said that she’s currently in India, which has been a strong ally of the Former National leader. She arrived at the Hindon Air Base near New Delhi on a C-130 Hercules Military Aircraft. News reporters working on the grounds and recorded videos of thousands of people showing up in front of her residence and celebrating their victory. They chanted and sang being proud of their victory.

Today; on Tuesday, the central government of India called for an all-party meeting to discuss the affairs in Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar presided over the meeting and provided some updates on the events.

The number of deaths on Sunday alone reached over 90 with protesters calling for Hasina’s resignation and police firing rubber bullets and tear gas on a large crowd of demonstrators in Dhaka’s Shahbagh Square. In Addition, protesters in the northwest district of Sirajganj attacked a police station, resulting in the deaths of a minimum of 13 officers. That was the highest number of deaths on a single day since the beginning of the protest last month.

In an effort to stop the violence, authorities enforced a “Shoot on sight” Curfew. It started at 6 p.m. on Sunday and patrolled with police and military. Despite the warnings, thousands of people broke the curfew by marching in crowds uncontrolled early in the morning on Monday.

Now, Hasina had resigned from her post. On Monday amid the continuous pressure to stop the protests. She had stepped down from office ending 15 years of her Bangladesh rule.
