Figure Skaters Died On Board Crashed Plane

Figure Skaters Plane Crash: The figure skating community mourned after it was revealed that up to 14 skaters and instructors, including two 16-year-olds and a married pair of world champions.  They were on board the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River in Washington, DC on Wednesday night.

Flight 5342 crashed with a US Army helicopter as it approached Reagan Washington International Airport, killing over 60 passengers. According to the Skating Club of Boston, six of its members were on the plane returning from a development camp. It was held following the US National Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.

It identified the Figure skaters Jinna Han and Spencer Lane, both 16, as well as their mothers, Jin Han and Molly Lane. Lane’s Instagram account shared a story on Wednesday evening that displayed the scene from an airplane window, labeled with the airport codes ICT and DCA, which correlate to the travel issue. The club also stated that Russian-born ice skating teachers and former world champions Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, husband, and wife, were among its members who boarded the plane.

The Updates

The team was returning from a development program for young skaters. The event hosted in conjunction with the recent US Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. US officials do not expect any survivors from Wednesday night’s tragic crash. Crash between a commercial airliner and a military helicopter in Washington, DC.

So far, twenty-eight bodies have been found at the location. The National Transportation Safety Board is looking at many elements to determine the cause of the disaster. Rescuers will continue to search the frozen waters of the Potomac River for the remains of both aircraft. There were 64 persons on the American Airlines airplane and three on the chopper.

Aside from the undisclosed total number of skaters, little information has emerged regarding the passengers and flight attendants onboard.
