DeepSeek, this week’s popular AI software from China, will not replace teachers in the classroom anytime soon. The hallucination problem persists, as it does with any of its American counterparts. But make no mistake: it’s a teacher. DeepSeek is already putting Silicon Valley titans to shame with its substantially lower price and a model that performs comparably in benchmark testing to its brightest rivals.

What is DeepSeek?

DeepSeek has made waves in the United States and other global markets after surpassing ChatGPT as the most popular free software on the Apple Store. The Chinese AI software, which was released on January 20, is a low-cost resource-intensive chatbot. It’s R1 reasoning model apparently costs only $5.6 million in computer resources, compared to OpenAI’s GPT-4, which costs $100 million. The Chinese AI software is being likened to ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Meta AI; however, rumours suggest that the app censors data and information.

US President Donald Trump has described DeepSeek as a “wakeup call” for his country. Yet, he has not said that it poses a threat to US national security. Australian Science Minister Ed Husic, on the other hand, stated that he would be “very careful” about the Chinese app’s data and privacy management. This could mean that DeepSeek collects data. On the user’s name, birth date, email address, audio, text, or past chats, IP, operating system, and indeed typing habits and saves it on servers in China.

India plans to create its own AI model in 10 months

India is poised to make a significant breakthrough in Artificial Intelligence (AI). By building its own large language model (LLM), akin to ChatGPT and DeepSeek. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, has indeed said that the AI model will be ready in 10 months. It will mark a significant step forward in the country’s journey to AI self-reliance. Appearing at the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, Vaishnaw said that the foundation for the AI model had already been established. The framework is now complete. The government is focused on developing a system that meets the unique demands of Indian users.

“For the past 1.5 years, our teams have collaborated closely with entrepreneurs, researchers, and professors. Today, we are seeking proposals to create our own core model. Vaishnaw informed reporters that the model will consider the Indian environment, languages, and culture while remaining bias-free.
