U-19 ICC World Cup 2024: Set to start on January 19, 2024, the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 will see 16 teams compete in 48 matches. The tournament’s last game is set for February 11, 2024. The competition will be place in South Africa, with matches taking place in a number of towns and stadiums. The locations are spread out around the nation and offer a variety of settings and playing conditions.
Let’s start by discussing the numbers. From 2016 to 2022, India participated in and advanced to the final of every one of the last four ICC Under-19 World Cups, taking home titles in 2018 and 2022. India’s dominance is further demonstrated by the fact that they have faced four different teams in the four finals.
In actuality, the only two games India has lost in four editions of the tournament are their losses in the 2020 and 2016 finals. India has an 11 win-loss ratio during this time, having won 22 games. No other team approaches the area. 2008 and 2012 saw India win the Under-19 World Cup as well. And even though they bowled out Pakistan for 109 in the 2006 final, they faltered to lose in a stunning way.
Team India
At the Asia Cup Under-19, India won 11 and lost 2 games throughout the same time frame (2016โ2022). The only team that has not lost more games than they have won against India’s under-19 squad is Sri Lanka (6 wins, 6 losses).
And yet, even despite this incredible domination, the 2022 World Cup success distinguishes out for at least two reasons. First, midway through the competition, Covid-19 struck the Indian camp. The six cricket players had to withdraw. The team was so thin that the managers had to bring beverages for the players during the game. It wasn’t until the final that they could use the entire squad.
Naturally, the other problem was their lack of readiness, which was mostly brought on by COVID-19. In 2019โ20, the Indian domestic season had to be shortened. 2020โ21 saw a shortened season without the Ranji Trophy, and 2021/22 is currently ongoing. Rajvardhan Hangargekar is the only player of the Indian team to have represented Maharashtra in senior cricket to date.
How was the squad chosen?
The BCCI had hosted the Challenger Under-19s, a six-team competition featuring probable World Cup contenders, in early November. The cricket players had many opportunities because each team played five matches. Two teams were then formed from the top performers.
The third team in the triangular event was Bangladesh Under-19s. After that, the final squad was selected. This team participated in the Asia Cup before the World Cup.
Under-19 World Cup 2024 Location
The South African country is set to host the 2024 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which is slated to begin on January 19 and end on February 11. There will be sixteen teams competing in this 50-over competition, and 41 matches are planned. The teams are divided into four groups, each with four teams, for the first round of the event. The Super Six stage, which consists of two groups of six teams each, will come next.
