IPL 2025 Opening: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets in the first game of IPL 2025 on Saturday at Eden Gardens. The night was star-studded. The opening ceremony ended with the national anthem. It featured Shah Rukh Khan dancing with Rinku Singh and Virat Kohli. Dancing on ‘Lut-Put Gaya’ and ‘Jhoome Jo Pathan’, respectively.

In Saturday’s IPL 2025 opener, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Defeated by a commanding seven wickets with outstanding fifties from star batsman Virat Kohli and new recruit Phil Salt. As RCB chased down KKR’s 174/8 in just 16.2 overs, Kohli (59 not out, 36b, 4×4, 3×6) and Salt (56, 31b, 9×4, 2×6) combined for 95 runs for the first wicket in only 8.3 overs. Their score was 177/3. Earlier, when KKR was looking to easily break the 200-run cushion, captain Ajinkya Rahane hit a fantastic 56 and shared a 103-run partnership for the second wicket with Sunil Narine (44, 26b).
However, the RCB bowlers put on a fantastic comeback, led by Krunal Pandya (3/29), a left-arm spinner. Pacer Josh Hazlewood took two wickets.

In some senses, the IPL would not exist without its connection to cricket-crazed India’s other preoccupation. The grand opening ceremony for every IPL season, when famous names light up the night just before the players get ready to do the same in the season curtain-raiser. It is the best example of this in any season.
