Jasprit Bumrah Becomes Fastest Indian to 200 Test Wickets

Jasprit Bumrah made history on Sunday by being the fastest Indian bowler to capture 200 Test wickets during the ongoing Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He reached the milestone after taking four wickets in Australia’s first innings and then dismissing Travis Head for one in their second innings on Day 4, earning his 200th Test wicket in just 44 Tests.

With this feat, Bumrah joins an elite group of bowlers that includes Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada, who have also hit 200 wickets in 44 matches.

Bumrah reached the milestone with his 8484th legal delivery in Test cricket, becoming the fastest Indian to reach 200 wickets in terms of ball count. He outperformed Mohammed Shami, who accomplished the same feat after 9896 deliveries. Overall, Bumrah is currently the fourth-fastest bowler to get 200 wickets, trailing Waqar Younis (7725 balls), Dale Steyn (7848 balls), and Kagiso Rabada (8154 balls).

The former India Test captain and head coach has dismissed 49 batters in Australia, 36 in England, 11 in New Zealand, and 45 in South Africa. Bumrah has 202 wickets in 44 Tests, including 142 in SENA countries. He has 61 wickets in 11 Tests in Australia, while he has also dismissed 37 batters in England, six in New Zealand, and 38 in South Africa.

Bumrah surpassed Kumble’s tally during the second session of the fourth day of play in the ongoing fourth India-Australia Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Alex Carey (2 from 7) claimed his 142nd Test wicket in SENA countries.

During the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test, Bumrah achieved numerous milestones. His first wicket of Sam Konstas helped him reach 150 wickets in the World Test Championship, and when he dismissed Travis Head for one, he became the second-fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets. Head’s wicket also helped him break Ravichandran Ashwin’s record of capturing the most wickets in one edition of the World Test Championship for India.

Australia is approaching a 150-run lead.

India recovered brilliantly on the third day, scoring 369 runs thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s century and 127-run partnership with Washington Sundar. Australia scored 474 in their first innings and led by 105 runs after dismissing India. The Kangaroos lost Konstas’ early wicket in their second innings, but they still had a good lead of 148 runs. Australia has 8 wickets in hand and might start playing fast in the second session.
