Eden Gardens Fire Accident: The Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata experienced a fire on Wednesday just after the updated World Cup 2023 schedule was revealed. Flames consumed one of the rooms late at night, causing serious damage to the renowned stadium, which will stage five matches of the main event, including the second semifinal. In order to be fully ready for the World Cup, the Eden Gardens, the site of some of India’s most significant victories over the years, notably the VVS Laxman-Rahul Dravid marathon in the epic 2001 Test against Australia and the 1993 Hero Cup final, is undergoing redevelopment. The fire started when a stack of towels placed nearby ignited on fire after being struck by sparks from one of the sauna heaters. But thankfully, this minor hiccup won’t affect the deadline.

At 11.50 last night, a fire started. The people who worked here first saw smoke, then the fire. Two fire tenders were dispatched right away, and the flames were quickly put out. The dressing room itself was not harmed. Only a few cables burned. Snehasish Ganguly, head of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), told reporters on Thursday that there is unquestionably no sabotage angle.

A World Cup knockout game has a completely different vibe. Additionally, the 1987 and 2016 World Cup finals were held at Eden Gardens.
Schedule for the 2023 World Cup at Eden Gardens
However, Kolkata will start to move much later than other destinations. On October 28, Bangladesh and the Netherlands will play in the country’s first World Cup game. On the final day of the month, Pakistan and Bangladesh will face off in a game that is expected to be particularly tense. India will play South Africa on November 5 after a five-day break. And on November 11, the last league match of the CWC ’23 will be played. It will be played in Kolkata between England and Pakistan. This match was initially scheduled for November 12. But it was moved ahead a day after CAB warned that security would be a problem because it falls on the same day as the Hindu holiday of Kali Puja.
