Following his death, various social media users flocked to the comments area to express their condolences. According to news agency PTI, Zakir Hussain’s family said in a statement that he was suffering from a rare lung disease known as ‘idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis’, which caused difficulties.

What is Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)?

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a severe lung disorder. When we breathe, oxygen flows through the little air sacs in our lungs and into the bloodstream, where it is distributed to all of the body’s organs. However, when IPF occurs, scar tissue grows inside the lungs, making breathing difficult. With age, this condition worsens. As a result, there is insufficient oxygen in the blood as it flows through the lungs. Because of this, your other organs are unable to work properly.
