Parliament Ambedkar Chaos: Congress plans 150-city press conference

Parliament Ambedkar Row: On Saturday, Congress launched a nationwide campaign demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of a “deliberate attack” on BR Ambedkar during a parliamentary debate on the Constitution.

The campaign follows Shah’s reply to the two-day discussion on 75 years of the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha on December 17. Shah attacked Congress and alleged that the opposition party had repeatedly disrespected Ambedkar. “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar…If they had taken God’s name so many times, they would have secured a place in heaven for seven lifetimes…” he said, before going on to add that India’s first law minister was forced to resign from Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet.

The Breakdown in Parliament Ambedkar Chaos

Parliament was severely disrupted on Wednesday when Congress launched a large protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his contentious remarks about Dr. BR Ambedkar during his Rajya Sabha address. Meanwhile, the BJP backed Shah, calling the allegations politically motivated.

During the protest, Congress MPs and other opposition members held portraits of BR Ambedkar and sang chants like ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Amit Shah maafi maango’ (Amit Shah should apologize) within Parliament. The disturbance was not restricted to Delhi, as Congress leaders protested outside Raj Bhavans in several states.
