Republic Day Parade 2025: On Sunday, January 26, India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day. Republic Day honors the 26 January 1950 promulgation of the Indian constitution. With an emphasis on 75 years of implementing the constitution and Jan Bhagidari, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated in a press release that this Republic Day parade 2025 will combine India’s cultural diversity and military might in a new way. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay a wreath at the national war memorial before the Republic Day parade begins in the morning on January 26, 2025.
Lesser-known facts regarding Republic Day Parade in 2025
- To honor the Indian National Congress’s Purna Swaraj declaration from 1930, Republic Day is observed on January 26. The proclamation demanded total autonomy from the British terminus.
- A year prior, in July, the Republic Day parade preparation started. On the day of the procession, the participants arrive to the location by 3 in the morning after being formally informed of their participation. They would have put in roughly 600 hours of practice by then. The Republic Day parade’s full dress rehearsal this year was held on Thursday, January 23.
- A prime minister, president, or other national leader is invited each year to serve as the Republic Day parade’s chief guest. Prabowo Subianto, the president of Indonesia is chief guest this year.
- The firing of the gun salute coincides with the playing of the national anthem. The anthem begins with a gunshot, followed by another one 52 seconds later. Shorts are fired from canons that were manufactured in 1941 and are used in all official army programs.
- Each year, different states and government agencies adopt a team that is chosen for Republic Day. Swarnim Bharat-Virasat sir Vikas (Golden India- Heritage and Development) has been selected as the theme for the tableaux at the Republic Day parade in 2025.
