The number of bodies recovered at the Kerala landslide has risen to 215 today. As the rescuers continue their work in the landslide-affected districts of North Kerala approximately 206 people are still listed missing. The Landslide brought massive stones and logs into Mudakai and Chooralmala residential areas along with the flooded landscape these are causing a great deal of difficulty for the rescue team to work smoothly.
On Saturday, Defence PRO announced that deep search readers will be placed in the impacted areas to find the people who are still reportedly missing and trapped under the rubble in villages devastated by landslides. The government of Kerala has also asked for the use of cutting-edge header technology for better rescue operations. That includes four Reeco radars and one Xaver radar which will be transported from Delhi in and Indian Air Force aircraft altogether with their operators.
The Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan mentioned that the search and rescue operation are almost nearing to its end, while 206 individuals are still missing.
What exactly occurred on Tuesday?
It was just past midnight around 1 o’ clock when the first landslip came. The second landslide followed at 4:30 AM which was more deadly than the previous one. It was confirmed that the victims, most of them were buried in their sleep. They had very little hope of survival after the consecutive incidents. The worst of the damage was turned to Chooralmala hamlet, nearly all of whose homes and shops were submerged under mud and rubble. Two wheelers and damaged cars were laying around in pieces here and there.
On July 30, 8 AM, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared that every government department have been activated for rescue and search operations. The rescuing of the victims and dead bodies were also delayed due to continuous rainfall. People are afraid that there can be further landslides messing up everything.
When the incident became mainstream Prime Minister Narendra Modi quickly announced a compensation of Rs. 2,00,000 for the families of the dead and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
Kerala Landslide Hazard Update
In the Tuesday night at 10 PM, NDRF commander Akhilesh Kumar stated that the operation needed to suspend overnight. He took the decision looking at the bad weather that could lead to more landslides is king more people’s lives. “Since rainfall is ongoing, there are chances of another landslip,” he said.
