Shiv Sena members vandalised The Habitat studio in Mumbai’s Khar after comedian Kunal Kamra uploaded newest YouTube episode referring to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a ‘gaddar’ or ‘traitor’. In the midst of the recent uproar over comedian Kunal Kamra’s comments regarding Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, an unverified audio recording has emerged. The recording appears to show a chat between Kamra and a Shiv Sena worker who threatened to beat him up. Kamra would face a destiny similar to that of the studio, the worker warns in the alleged audio clip.
Kunal Kamra’s Statement
After the political debates on Monday, Kamra issued a statement late Monday night, declaring, “I will not apologize.” “I do not fear this mob, and I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down.” Kamra went on to say that his statement echoed what “Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st Deputy CM) said about Mr. Ekant H Shinde (2nd Deputy CM)”.
“But will the law be fairly and equally deployed against those who have decided that vandalism is the appropriate response to being offended by a joke?”
On Shiv Sena member vandalizing Habitat Studio, he stated, “An entertainment venue is merely a platform. A venue for a variety of shows. Habitat (or any other venue) bears no responsibility for my comedy, nor does it have any authority or influence over what I say or do. Nor does any political party. Attacking a venue for a comedian’s words is as pointless. Just like overturning a lorry carrying tomatoes because you didn’t like the butter chicken you were served.”
“Your refusal to take a joke at the expense of a prominent public figure does not affect the nature of my right. Making fun of our leaders and political system is not criminal, as far as I know. However, I am ready to collaborate with the police and courts in any legal action taken regarding me.”
What Shiv Sena Did to Habitat
On Sunday, members of the Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, vandalized The Habitat. The Shiv Sena’s youth wing, led by Rahool Kanal, allegedly rushed the studio. They disrupted another comedian’s live act and causing property damage. Damage also included the ceiling, lights, and sound system.
The damage caused The Habitat to declare its indefinite closure. They cited worries about providing a forum for free expression while ensuring the safety of the buildings and people. In regards to the incident, police detained Rahool Kanal and 11 other Shiv Sena workers. However, the demonstrators were given bail just hours after being arrested.
Kunal Kamra refuses to say sorry
The comedian posted a lengthy statement on social media on Monday night. By denouncing individuals who were doxxing him and disclosing his personal information while adamantly stating that he would not retract his comments. “I won’t say I’m sorry… “Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st deputy CM) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM),” Kamra said, adding, “I don’t fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down.”
