Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx a little over a month ago, but it has not yet gone on sale. While the rear-wheel drive model costs $63,999 (including taxes), its four-wheel drive sibling prices are still finalizing. Roxx test drives have officially commenced, as units of the sturdy body-on-roll SUV have begun to trickle into showrooms.
Bookings for Thar Roxx will be official from October 3, with deliveries starting on Dussehra this year. Mahindra Thar Roxx has six variants: MX1, MX3, MX5, AX3L, AX5L, and AX7L. The petrol version costs Rs 12.99 lakh, and the diesel version costs Rs 13.99 lakh.
The booking token amount is expecting to be around Rs 20,000-25,000. Available with seven colour shades (Deep Forest, Everest White, Tango Red, Battleship Grey) and two new ones, Nebula Blue and Burnt Sienna, as well as Stealth Black, the Mahindra Thar Roxx can also come with an optional top ten premium soft top cover.

Inside, Thar has all the bells and whistles. It has a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon-tuned sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. The safety package includes six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
The two engine options for the Thar Roxx are a 2.0-litre medallion turbocharge petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit. The two 4-cylinders can be had in two tuning states. The base petrol motor makes 160 bhp and 330 Nm, while the higher tune delivers 175 bhp and 380 Nm.
Likewise, the oil burner develops 150 bhp and 330 Nm of torque in lower variants while producing 173 bhp and 370 Nm in higher trims. The 2.0-litre motor connects to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, while the more powerful engine comes only with an automatic. 4WD will be available only with the diesel powertrain, which carries a price premium, as does additional equipment.
The First Mahindra Thar Roxx To Be Auctioned
The Thar Roxx is the debut model of Mahindra’s tradition of auctioning off the first unit with their all-new vehicles. The three-door Thar was also auctioned when it launched last year and sold for an eye-watering Rs 1.11 crore. This initial Thar Roxx will feature the VIN 0001 serial number. The tear-down portion of this VIN has already started online. The money raised from the auction will go to a not-for-profit organization, the winner.
The auction will be available online from 5 pm September 15 to begin and end at 7 pm 5 pm. The winner may then select from the fo7 pm four charities:
- Name of NGO: Naandi Foundation (Empowering Girls and Women)
- BAIF Research Foundation(Watershed and Rural Livelihood Development)
- WOTR – Watershed Organization Trust (Integrated Water Resource Management and Agriculture)
- United Way Mumbai (Project Road Safety)
In addition to 0001 VIN, this Thar Roxx unit was sold along with a badge inscribed with the autograph of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra. The special edition will have features based on the top-spec AX7L variant. It will draw power from the diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox. It, too, is set to benefit from the 4×4 drivetrain.
