BMW M5 Touring Revealed

Now BMW has unshackled the new model from its chains, unveiling a complete M5 Touring. Officially Called the BMW M5 Touring. The last E61 generation car rolled out in 2010, and we haven’t seen a proper M5 wagon since. Revealed at Monterey Car Week in California, the M5 marks round three of BMW’s super-estate that dates back to 1992 with the E34 M5.

Supercar performance promised by the BMW M5 Touring

The 0-100kph acceleration of the BMW M5 Touring is also stated as 3.6 seconds, with a top speed recorded at over 304kph as well. This is a 727hp, V8 plug-in hybrid with more than 1000Nm. It gets even more impressive when you hear that this performance is delivered without compromising practicality, with the M5 Touring offering over 1,630 liters of luggage space with its rear seats folded down.

The super-estate is also heavy, at around 2.5 tonnes like the M5 sedan; as a result, its pace was equaled and even bettered by less powerful but much lighter rivals such as the turbo 600hp Audi RS6 Avant Performance (3.6sec) and plug-in hybrid Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performace (3.4sec). Its 18.6kWh does, however, boast a class-leading 68km of electric-only range.

Some of the weight is accounted for by additional bracing and reinforcement in the chassis required due to a larger base G90 M5 now weighing an extra 450kg versus its F90 predecessor. Like the M5 sedan, the chassis, suspension steering, and structural components all receive performance upgrades with the M5 Touring. It comes as standard with adaptive suspension, four-wheel steering, and an M differential unique to the car.

This means that the visage of an M5 Touring–imposing arches and a raked roofline grows by 2.76 inches in width and.98 inches in length over its standard BMW counterpart at production spec. Inside, the M5 Touring is essentially a carbon copy of the outbound sports sedan with bucket seats and matching carbon fiber trim (and later on, BMW’s latest iDrive tech, including 3D infotainment capabilities paired with a Curved Display).

Will it come to India?

The new BMW M5 Touring joins the 522 hp car. It has a twin-turbo straight-six engine and a load area of up to 1,629 liters. From last year, they have been first-time-round models for two super-estates at the Munich brand. Coming to India: The top-spec new-gen M5 is expected in the Indian market. At a later date, but it remains to be determined whether an estate version will come here.
