IPL Auction 2025: Overseas players made a lot of money at IPL player auctions over the last decade, but not this time. Indians made up the top five acquisitions at the 2025 IPL player auction, with prices exceeding INR 18 crore. Only twice in the history of IPL auctions have the three most expensive players been Indians: in 2011 and 2022. In 2011, Indians held the top seven positions.

Prior to this auction, Yuvraj Singh was the highest-paid Indian cricketer in an IPL auction, earning INR 16 crore from the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2015. With that bid, Shreyas also became the most expensive player ever at IPL auctions, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s 2024 payment of INR 24.75 crore from KKR. However, when the LSG increased the price to INR 27 crore, Rishabh Pant quickly outbid them all.

At this auction, the ten teams purchased 120 Indian players for INR 383.4 crore. Twelve of the 21 players who received a price of INR 10 crore or more were Indian. With INR 70.25 crore paid on 12 players, England players were the second highest earners. With 14 South Africans purchased this season, South Africa had the largest representation on the list of foreign players sold.

The Impact Player regulation most likely caused the teams to make high bids for specialized batters and bowlers. Thirty-two hitters earned INR 117.05 crore, while 71 players enrolled as bowlers cost INR 284.05 crore. Out of which Shreyas personally owned 22.85%. Youths made a lot of money

Thirteen players under the age of twenty were purchased at this auction, including Suryavanshi. Only nine players who were 36 years of age or older were selected by the teams. And six of them were paid a base fee. Those nine senior players cost INR 23.2 crore, of which INR 9.75 crore went to R Ashwin from CSK.
