A team of Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar, on a two-day visit, has arrived in Mumbai to review preparations for the Maharashtra elections assembly polls.
The team will hold discussions with the political parties, state government officers, enforcement agencies, district collectors and Superintendents of Police on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday and Saturday, ECI will address the representatives of political parties, enforcement agencies, nodal officers of Central paramilitary forces, special police nodal officers, chief election officer, state chief secretary, DGP, administrative secretaries and senior police personnel, a release said.
It added that the ECI will also meet district collectors and superintendents of police. On Saturday afternoon, the release informed that the ECI will address a press conference before leaving for Delhi. The term of the Maharashtra assembly ends in the last week of November.
In recent years, massive political crises have rocked the Maharashtra state assembly from unforeseen coalition formations, internal party disputes, and defections within the ruling coalition, which put a question mark on the stability of the government and, in turn, caused shifts in alliances and power.
Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra legislative assembly are likely to be in mid-November. Mahayuti, comprising Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP, and NCP. Led by Ajit Pawar, he will look to retain power. On its part, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Congress are looking to topple the ruling formation.
Although Mumbai City has ten constituencies, Mumbai Suburban has 26 assembly seats. The key constituencies are Dharavi, Malabar Hills, Colabal, Versova, Borivali, and Byculla.
